importing pst files into outlook 2000

I see from past questions that importing outlook 2003 pst file into my
outlook 2000 is not the correct route. However, when I try to open the pst
file while in outlook 2000 as instructed, I get a message that reads
"Properties for this information service must be defined prior to use". What
should I do to satisfy this message so that I can download the file?

Firstly you need to make sure that the pst file from outlook 2003 is NOT in
the new Unicode format - if it is then outlook 2000 will not read it anyway.
Secondly, you need to ensure that the file is in a location (such as your
HDD) where Outlook has read/write access to it, and that any Read-Only
attribute is turned off.

How do I verify the format of the pst file?
Once I have the pst file in the correct format, then I open OL2000, click on
"File" then "open personal folders file" and browse to find the file on the
hard drive. Right?

That's correct. If it's a new Unicode pst then all other things being equal,
Outlook 2000 won't open it.

You need to open the PST file with Outlook 2003 (or higher).
Right-click on the Personal Folders file, select Properties, and click
Advanced. If the Format says 'Personal Folders File', then it's 2003
format, otherwise it's 97-2002 format.
