The local site is ALWAYS the first site you open. This could be on your PC,
or on a server on the dark side of the moon - distance has no meaning here -
it is the FIRST site you open, and occupies the left pane in remote site
view.
The Remote site is the other site - this could be on your PC, or could be on
the moon - again, distance has no meaning. It occupies the right side in
Remote site view.
1) To publish from server to PC (assuming the server has FrontPage
extensions):
2) Create a folder on the PC for the website. Open this folder in
FrontPage. Allow FP to add the necessary files.
3) Click Remote Web Site tab
4) Click Remote web Site Properties
5) Select FrontPage or SharePoint Services
6) Type in the complete URL for your website (should be similar to
http://www.example.com )
7) Click OK
8) Log in
9) Select Remote to Local at the bottom right of the screen
10) Click Publish web site
11) VERY IMPORTANT - Make a Back up by publishing to a different folder
(follow the steps below, but substitute a folder on your PC for the server
location - include steps 2) to 5) using file Sytem instead of FP extension,
and browse to the folder
To Publish back to the server:
1) Click Remote Web Site tab
The remote side maybe populated, or you may get a login prompt. If not:
2) Click Remote web Site Properties
3) Select FrontPage or SharePoint Services
4) Type in the complete URL for your website (should be similar to
http://www.example.com )
5) Click OK
6) If necessary, log in
7) When the remote side is populated
8) Click Remote Web Site Properties
9) On the Publishing tab, Select "Changed Pages Only"
10) Click OK
11) Select Local to Remote
12) Click Publish Web Site
If you have lost any pages, they can only be restored from a backup, either
on the server or your PC. They may still be on the server.
I always keep at least 3 backups in different locations (1 on PC, 1 on
external drive, 1 on MY server [which is also backed up regularly], the
remote site itself, and my Host performs daily backups.

I have tried several times with my FPage2003 (Vista Home Premium PC) to
download a website on line to my PC, edit it and re-publish it. Please
help
me thru the steps. I have tried and the remote ends up on the local side
of
the FP window and the local ends on the remote side of the FP window on my
PC. Then when I tried to re-publish back to the remote (online) i lost
some
of the key pages. Have spoken with the server company and we have not been
able to resolve.
Need someone to provide steps, maybe I am missing something simple.
