Importing Resources into Project Server 2007

Hi,
We have loaded our users into Project Server 2007 via the Active
Directory method and now want to create resources to use in our
projects. We tried to import resources by creating a project with the
resources in it and using the Tools ==> Enterprise Options ==> Import
Enterprise Resources option in MS Project Pro 2007 option. We get the
error "Resource Name Already in Use" but the names do not appear in
the Enterprise Resource Pool.

What are we doing wrong?

Thanks,
Caryle

I don't undersand. If you are using AD, isn't this populating the
Enterprise Resource Pool for you, as well as placing the resources' user
accounts into the proper security Groups?

If you are talking about adding resources to a project, you do this by
clicking Tools - Build Team from Enterprise? The Build Team dialog shows
all resources in the Enterprise Resource Pool. Please give us more info and
we will try to help you.

Dale,
Thank you for your quick response.
Yes we are using AD and Yes it isn't populating the Enterprise
Resource Pool, or at least when we bring up the pool there are no
names in the list. But I suppose it does think they are there since I
get the message stated in my original message, "Resource Name Already
in Use".
The user accounts are in the proper security groups.

Hi Caryle,
I would start by checking the logs of the AD sync. There have been whole
web based technet sessions on AD synch, and though they were 2003 based, I'm
sure the process is similiar and any logging would be too. So, start there
as I would assume it is that that is failing (assuming just adding a windows
based resource that is not in the sync group works)

Caryle,
We have tested the AD sync in 2007 and found that the AD sync will add the
person as a user but you have to edit each resource to make them available in
the Enterprise Resource Pool.

To do this click on Server Settings, Click on Manage Users, click on the
resource name and place a checkmark in the box 'User can be assigned as a
resource'. Save your changes.

Lisa,
You are a life saver!!! This worked great although it would be nice
to have a way to check that for everyone or at least a way to select
those users you want as resources.

Thanks!!

To set up the AD sync, did you actually do the following:

1. Log into PWA with administrator permissions.
2. Click the Server Settings link in the Quick Launch menu.
3. Click the "Active Directory Resource Pool Synchronization" link in the
Operational Policies section.
4. On the Active Directory Enterprise Resource Pool Synchronization page,
fine the AD Group and select it.
5. Select the "Schedule synchronization" option and specify a time.
6. Click the Save button.

Please check those settings and let us know what you find.
