Importing to an existing database

I am new to trying to import data into an existing database. By doing the
following: 1. from the file menu on the toolbar I click on "get external
file' and then I click on "import" 2. I choose the path and excel file I
want and click on "import" 3. When the "import spreadsheet wizard" comes
up I choose the excel worksheet I want imported and click on "next". 4. I
click a checkmark in the box "First Row Contains Column Headings" and click
on "next" 5. I click on "In an Existing Table" and choose my table and
click on "next 6. I click on both boxes for the wizard to analyze my data
and display help when finish and click on "Finish". I keep getting an error
but no reason why the error occurred. I am alsop having a problem when I try
importing to a new database. When I get to the box that ask about the field
options the first column default into the field option boxes. But if I try
to click on any other column I still stay at the first field that defaulted.
Can anybody help??

Most importantly, does your first row (column headers) exactly match the
field names in the table you're importing to? If any of them are not an exact
match, you'll get that "sorry - can't do it" generic sounding error.
