Importing

Hi I was talking to a tech yesterday that told me how to import a 2007
database to 2003 and save it as a mdb so I could have my security file
imported also . I now forget what he told me to do and when I try to import
from the new 2003 file I'm not getting the folder option for changing the
extension. Can someone help me?

Since 2003 happened before 2007, your copy of Access 2003 won't "know" how
to respond to something created in 2007.

On the other hand, if you use 2007 and Save As a 2003 database, your Access
2003 version should be able to open that one.

If the tech is still available, you might just want to check back with
him -- the "security file" wrinkle may require a different approach.

I've saved both files as 2003. How do I get the little folder icon to appear
to change the extension of the file to .accdb?

Here's a snippett from Ken:

From DB2 file, use File | Get External Data ... | Import. Select file type
of "*.mdb". Navigate to DB1 file. Select the file. Select the form that is
to be imported. Click Import.

But it won't let me select the file type.

Changing the extension of the file doesn't make it readable by a different
program/version. Why are you trying to change a file to one with an
extension of ".accdb"? That extension is what Access 2007 uses.

I thought you said you wanted to go from 2007 to 2003...?

Hi Jeff,

Well I figured it out here's the solution:

Create a new 2003 database close it. Open the old database click close in
the access menu this brings up the screen with the file folder, click on
Blank then file folder then .mdb then import. Copy the old security file to
the new folder and volia It works!
