Improvements to the Office update process

J

Jim Holmes

I recommend the following improvements to the update process:

1. We use Firefox prowser. Windows update works with it but Office update
does not - fix this.
2. Why do I have to sometimes insert the original CD and in other cases I do
not. I have 120 users and it is very difficult to automate updates when CDs
are asked for. I have a mixed envoronment of Office standard, Office
business, Office Pro, Visio, and Project for various users. Fix this.
3. I did have One note loaded for testing purposes but uninstalled it. The
latest office update wanted the one note cd - it took me a while to find one.
Fix this.

As far as Firefox support. Firefox needs to support ActiveX...if it did
then OfficeUpdate would work on Firefox. You are more than welcome to use
IE to use OfficeUpdate which supports ActiveX.
As far as request for source goes I recommend installing off a network for
your users so that they can use the network source as their source files.
We are working on getting better and better at requiring source less often
as has been demonstrated with the LIS tool in Office 2003. For more info on
the LIS tool see here...

Hi, Jim,

In addition to what Ryan responded, I understand that Office Update will be
rolled into Windows Update at some point in the future, so your item 1 may
be resolved at that time.

Great news, Susan.
