In Entourage 2004 Inbox won't sync with Exchange server reliably

I've seen other people with this problem in various forums, but no
authoritative solutions.

Entourage 2004 (v.11.3.6) is connecting to my company's Exchange server
okay, but the Inbox (and just the Inbox) is not syncing regularly. The
Schedule is set to Send & Receive every minute, but this only occasionally
works. Emptying the Cache forces a new download of all messages, but
otherwise the sync takes place only occasionally and seemingly randomly.

Sending mail works fine, and Calendars are syncing okay.

What's the problem with my Inbox sync?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Every minute might be the problem. Try setting it to every 3 or 5 minutes.
