In error changed the .pub extension on file, can I recover?

When cleaning up a folder, I renamed a publisher document...seven pages of
carefully laid out publisher cards. I failed, even with the caution prompt,
to notice that I had deleted the .pub extension.

Is there any way, other than a carefully saved back up copy which I can't
seem to locate, to recover this file?

Thank you,

Just rename it again and replace the .pub extension.

Honestly John, I DID try last evening to re rename the document (amongst
many other things) with the correct extension and was not able to do so...

So, when I read your response this morning I thought that again, it would
not resolve the issue. How could it be so simple. Why would I waste a post?
Darn!

BUT, lo and behold, it did! I guess that good night's sleep thing and your
common sense response worked and all those sheets are back.

Many thanks to a very embarassed person!
