In EXCEL - File Format is Not Valid (Tries to open WORD files?)

Help please,

When I prompt Excel to open (program or file)it
automatically opens a WORD file and it reads
as "ABC.doc:file format is not valid"...

I checked the Knowledgebase and it indicated that I might
have multiple versions of Excel installed - I only have
2000 version.

Can anyone help, thanks.

It is possible that the file associations have got mixed up. Try running
'Detect & Repair' from under the Help menu in any office application
