In excel, how do I fix troubleshoot "too many cell formats."

I have a rather larger excel file with a large number of tables and choose
and lookup functions. I'm trying to (1) change the formatting of an entire
sheet to arial unicode size 8 and (2) copy a different sheet and put it in a
different place in the file. In both cases I'm getting the error message
"too many different cell formats."

Is there any way around this problem or is the file too big?
