In Excel, what does the message "#NAME?" mean?

That is what the program gives me when I input a formula like KNPV or IRR.
Any ideas how to fix? thank you

It is what Excel shows when it does not recognise a function or defined name.
E.g. when you enter an English function into a Dutch Excel version. Or when
you enter a function from the Analysis Toolpak Add-in (tools, add-ins) and the
add-in is not checked.
