In Line-Style Sheets

In my FP2000 "unleashed" book it tells me that by
highlighting say a paragraph or other element and then
formatting it I am applying style "in line" - I understnad
the drawbacks of this but my question is.. will creating
an "external style sheet" have anymore power over
governing font consistency between browsers? i dont have
alot of text and therfore "in-line" style seems the
easiest way for me.

Some browsers (NN4x) don't support all inline styles that well, and all browsers do not support CSS (internal or external) equally
Ideally use "safe" css w/ external style sheets (say using a CSS editor product like TopStyle) or create a separate css for each
browser type if you want true cross browser compatibility
