I tried the Restorefloder Switch but it did not work. Maybe because my
OS
is VISTA 64.
I have an idea wonder what you think.
1. If I Export my folders (Inbox, sent and contacts) As a backup .PST
then
2. Delete outlook completely
3. Reinstall outlook again.
4. Open my new Outlook.PST
5. Import the backup to the appropriate folders. Would that work.
You have been very kind to me.
Thanks

This switch (and a few other really helpful ones) are discussed here:

Thanks again Russ.
Can you please tell me how to “restart Outlook with the
/resetfolders
switchâ€
You ask me if I have any idea of what changed between the time it
appeared
and the time it did not?
There is a possibility that when I could not see CONTACTS folder in
the
Navigation Pan I created another SUBFODER in the folder list to
which I
imported my new contacts.
THEN, I believe I deleted the CONTACTS folder in the Navigation Pan
hoping
it will be replaced by my new contacts folder.
As you directed I checked the CONTACTS folder properties to your
specs
and
reset it. Now I see it in my address book. Now I need to “restart
Outlook
with the /resetfolders switchâ€
Thanks.
:
And you have no idea what changed between the time it appeared and
the
time
it didn't?
Not appearing in the address book view is an entirely different
problem.
Check the properties of the folder. Make sure it is in fact
designated
as
a
"Folder containing Contact Items" and is enabled as an email
address
book.
If it is, restart Outlook with the /resetfolders switch.

Hi Russ:
YES at one time the default Contacts Folder did appear as it
should
BUT
was not visable in the select names window.
I hope I do not sound too DUM. How do you reset the Navigation
Pan?
I tried the Navigatoin Pan Options, then Reset. the only thing
it
seem
to
do is change the order of the Icons, Mail, Calender, notes, ....
It
does
not
seem do any thing in brining the contact folders out.
Thanks agin.
:
Shall I also assume that at one time your default Contacts
Folder
appeared
as it should? If so, try resetting your Nav pane.

YES, The main contact folder HAS Contacts in it and I can
see
them
when
I
click on that foldder in the FOLDER LIST.
To make this more interesting, When I try to send an new
e-mail
in
the
(Select Names) Window I do not see the main CONTACTS folder
what
I
see
is
the
SUB FOLDER..
I wish I can give you access to my system so you can see what
I
have.
Thanks again.
:
Does your main Contacts Folder contain any Contacts itself or
only
the
subfolder?

Hi Russ:
First, thank you very much for being so patient with me. I
truly
appreciate
your responses to my questions.
It may be “Implausible if not impossible†I wish I can give
you
access
to
my
system so you can see it yourself.
You ASKED ME “When you select this folder in Folder List
view
WHAT
DO
YOU
SEE Here is what I see:
…………………………………………………………………………….
Contacts
New Contacts (this is a sub folder)
……………………………………………………………..
BUT, in the Navigation pan what I see is ONLY the subfolder
(New
Contacts)
You asked me what I was trying to do
I decided to use outlook as my new Contact List in place of
another
contact
management system (Maximizer) where I had a list of about
1200
individuals.
Here is what I did and wish to do:
1) Maximizer gave me a .CSV table.
2) I used outlook import export to import the .CSV file
into
my
NEW
contacts.
3) I mapped the .SCV list to the various Outlook fields. It
gave
me
a
hard
time but finally it worked.
You said that “Import is never a good Ideaâ€. As I will be
using
this
often
what do you recommend?
I will often need to update my outlook list can you point
me
to a
good
site
where I can get advice on how to do this better?
THANKS AGAIN for all your help.
:
Implausible if not impossible. All valid Contacts Folders
in
your
profile
will appear under "My Contacts" in the Contacts View of
the
Nav
Pane.
When you select this folder in Folder List view, what do
you
see?
Describe the import process you used and why you used
Import
to
create
Contacts. That's never a good idea.

Thanks Russ:
I am referring to the CONTACTS Navigation Pane. This is
normally
at
the
left side of the screen.
The top part has is labelled (My Contacts) It is in this
section
that I
see
my (New Contacts) folder but I can not see my MAIN
(contacts
Folder).
The lower part of the Navigation pan is labelled
(Current
Views)
===========================================
:
Unclear post. To which Navigation pane are you
referring?

I imported new contact list into a new folder [NEW
CONTACTS]
Here is what I have:
In the Navigation Pane I only see my NEW CONTACTS
