In PPT, how can I animate text in a placeholder as a group?

I am wanting to animate text in a placeholder to Split Horizontal In Effect
as a group by 2nd level. I need help setting the text as a group.

Not sure I understand the question but ...

Do you mean double click the text entry in custom animation and in the "text
animation" tab set group text > as one object?

If you want the entry / exit to split symetrically you should adjust the
size of the placeholder to just fit the text.
