In serious need of your help - Microsoft word Error boxes

Everytime I click on Microsoft Word on my Desktop I get a windows installer
box come up saying 'Prepairing to intall' after a few seconds I get another
box come up entitled 'Problem with shortcut' and an error message that says '
This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists
and that you can access it or contact the application vendor to verify that
this is a valid windows installer patch package' I've tried to re-install the
software but nothing seems to work. Any advice ? I really need to get this
problem sorted out soon.

This is due to a missing or corrupt Windows Installer file. To correct
it, obtain the following utility and use it to remove only the
reference to Office. Once that is complete then you'll need to
reinstall Office to point the Windows Installer to your installation
CD:
