In the Fonts Folder (Courier) is listed. Why does it not appear?

I have to type a paper and the instructor requests Courier. I have Office
2000 and it is not listed as one of the choices in Word (only Courier New).
I did however find it in my fonts folder. Is there anyway to get my version
of Word to use this font? I used a computer at the lab which had office 2003
installed on it and Courier was listed (but not Courier New - how odd).

Windows 98, ME, and 2000 have Courier - Windows XP doesn't. I don't think
there's a lot of difference between the two. If you REEEEEEEEEEEEEEALLY look
for differences, you will find them but for all intents and purposes,
consider them the same.

Also, I thought fonts are printer specific. Different printers have
different fonts and that is why fonts industry is in business!!

Thank you very much. My instructor wanted Courier because of his vision.
However I recall working in Windows 98 years ago and being able to somehow go
into word and pull out a specific font to use. Is this possible with my XP
system and if so, how. It doesn't have to be Courier, I would just like to
remember how it was done.

Thanks Again.

I was hoping to find an answer to this same question re Courier appearing in
Font folder but not in the toolbar dropdowns. I'd beg to differ with the
earlier "to all intents and purposes the same" comment. Courier New uses
proportional spacing, which can affect the pagecount significantly. If you're
writing to a specific wordcount, no probs, but if pagecount is the target, be
careful, you could get a materially different result by using Courier New
rather than Courier.

Can you explain my results if Courier New uses proportional
spacing?

I wrote a regular sentence using the traditional lazy dog test
and Courier New. Immediately below it, I replaced all the
letters with a and the two lines finished in exactly the same
place.

Courier New does NOT use proportional spacing. It's one of the few
fixed-pitch fonts that are generally available. If you're getting
proportional spacing when you specify Courier New, then something is
wrong.
