In Word 07: ScreenTip flashes quickley then goes away

E

Eddie

In a document when you pause your cursor over text that has a hyperlink, is a
track change, when you have translator turned on or any function that will
produce a screentip the ScreenTip pops up for less then a second then goes
away and never comes back. This pertains to any document no matter what
version or who created it.

Excel works fine this is only a Word 2007 issue

ScreenTips for the Ribbon and Quick Access toolbar work fine.

Thanks

To add to this
OS=Vista Business SP1
Office 2k7 Business SP1

I have all updates installed

I have checked on an XP machine running Office2k7 and the screentips remain
just fine

Unfortunately, I am unable to reproduce the problem. Now this may be because
I am using Office 2007 sp2b, which may have resolved this bug. Office sp2b
is not available yet as there are still more bug fixes being added and
tested at the moment. Note that Vista is currently on SP2 and not SP1, so
you don't have all updates installed.

I suggest you wait until Office SP2 becomes available as there are many
minor bugs resolved.

Terry,
Thak you for your reply.

I could accept that but in test using vista machines with sp1 and Office
2007 SP1 installed outside our domain the screentips work just fine.

I have removed a machine from the domain and used the local admin account
removing all GP's. This did not resolve the issue. I did a repair on Office
but didn't work. I uninstalled and reinstalled Office with all to be run from
commputer but this didn't resolve the issue.

When will SP@ be available?

Thank you for your assistance

Just found the issue.

It is related to a program called Workshare Protect. This program is used to
reove metadata from Word documents. There is an ActiveMonitor that when it
starts up it prevents the screentips from working properly.

To resolve this:

-Go to Task manager
-In the Process tab end Process ActiveMonitor.exe
-Go to registry key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
-Remove entry ActiveMonitor.exe.

Thank you for your assistance Terry

Thanks for the information. It's just amazing how many third party add-ins
cause the weirdest problems. They don't seem to have very good user testing!

I am actually getting this issue on a machine that doesn't have Workshare
Protect installed. Any other suggestions? Thanks,
