I have used Word in various versions since 1991. Until now, I have not had
too much trouble getting Word to apply headings the way I need them. Today,
however, I cannot get varying Headers & Footers to work the way it seems
they should.
The first several pages of this document do not need Headers & Footers, so,
I made them all part of Section 1.
Section 2 is a Foreword that requires the heading on the first page in 18pt
type, all following pages in that section require headings in 14pt type.
Section 3 is the main body of a book, which (on the first page of this
section ONLY) requires a multi-line Header, including a title in 20pt type
with the rest in 14pt type. All pages following the first in this section 3
require a one-line header in 14pt type.
If there's a way to get this to work right in Word 2002/XP, I have yet to
find it.
When I get headers & footers set to work for section 2 (specifying "This
Section" on the Page Setup dialogue that I popped up from the Header-Footer
toolbar along with checking "Different First Page," the text I enter in the
second and all succeeding pages of Section 2 wipes out the text I entered
for the Different First Page of Section 2.
In Section 3, I specified Different First Page and I selected "This Point
Forward" in Apply To" on the Page Setup dialogue that I popped up from the
Header-Footer toolbar. The heading I entered for the first page of Section
3 wipes out all of the headings I entered for Section 2. The headings I
entered for the second and all succeeding pages of section 3 wiped out the
heading I had entered for the first page of Section 3. It also wiped out
all pf the headings I had entered for Section 2.
How can I get Word2002/XP to let me set headings up totally different for
each section and get Different First Page to work right?
I shall greatly appreciate your help with this most frustrating problem.
