In Word, I click 'File', 'open' and the system hangs - any ideas

I try to open files in Word and the system hangs and does not respond - any
ideas as to the cause ?

I have removed and reinstalled Word and installed the latest Office updates.

My system started doing this today (4/16/2006). I cannot open a file nor save
a file because the dialogue box stops responding and I then have to use
Ctrl-Alt-Delete to shut down Word. I had an auto Windows update last night
and I believe this installed something nasty.

I hope we can solve this , Andy, otherwise I am in real trouble!

Your problem is almost certainly a result of a clash between HP software and
a recent security update (KB908531) to Windows.
