Inability to access Windows Live Hotmail Using Outlook after June 30th

Hi:

After reading Diane's post that Outlook would be able to access Live Hotmail
after June 30th, I downloaded and installed the Outlook Connector. Are
there any special quirks I should know about using Outlook Connector? The
installation was quite quick and painless, I just wanted to make sure there
was nothing else that had to be configured.

Thanks for your reply!

And WHICH version of Outlook would that be? The add-on only works with:

- Outlook 2003 and 2007 versions.
- Windows Live Hotmail account (not a classic/legacy MSN Hotmail
account).

You don't need to use the add-on for a paid Windows Live Hotmail PLUS
account which provides POP3 access. You didn't mention you use a free
or paid account.

Make sure when creating an e-mail account after adding the add-on that
you select to define it under the add-on's control. You need to use the
add-on to provide Deltasync support to Hotmail, not the old DAV (HTTP)
account setup that has been in Outlook before.

Hi:

I am using Outlook 2007 with a free Live Hotmail account. I already had an
email created, and Outlook was up, running and downloading Hotmail through
the HTTP protocol. I did not want to lose any of my emails or have a break
in my service, so I downloaded/installed the Connector.

I'm not sure I know what you mean about "defining it under add-on's
control." I looked under the tools>account settings and found that hotmail
is now using a MAPI protocol instead of HTTP. Is this what you are speaking
of?

Thanks for your help.

I couldn't use the Outlook Connector add-on because I still am using
Outlook 2002. The add-on won't work properly with that version. So I
only saw its behavior for a short time. When you create a new e-mail
account, and according to Diane Poremsky (an MVP) at
http://tinyurl.com/6jwncw, there is a selection under Tools -> E-mail
Accounts -> Add new account -> (other account types). In OL2002, that
last navigation says "Additional Server Types" (the "HTTP" account type
creates an old WebDAV account, not a Deltasync account type). In
OL2007, the option titles might've changed. My recollection was that
the add-on added a menu item, probably under Tools, and you used it to
manage your accounts under that add-on's control.

I only saw the add-on in operation for a less than a week before coming
to the conclusion that the add-on wouldn't work properly in my version
of Outlook. Also, since I am still using OL2002, I don't know what the
wizard screens look like under OL2007. There's been no
bang-for-the-buck (for me) to upgrade to OL2003 and then again to
OL2007. For a step-by-step hand-holding procedure to use the add-on,
either someone else has to jump in here that uses both OL2007 and the
add-on or maybe you can Google for a tutorial on using the add-on. All
I did was just install the add-on and then go figure out how to use it.

I checked under tools>account settings>change the heading says "setup
Outlook Connector to synchronize your web based based accounts in Outlook."
So, I suppose it is working. I'm sure I shall send a message if I run afoul
of something.

So, if I read your reply correctly, the account wizard had a new option
added to it after installing the add-on that says "Setup Outlook
Connector to synchronize your web based accounts in Outlook". Is that
correct?

Sorry to be so late with my reply. Working 12-hour days limits my online
activity sometimes :). Yes, that's correct, the wizard says sync web based
accounts in Outlook.
