Inactive Resources Workgroup (MSPS 2003)

Dear All,

For some time I have been making resources inactive when they leave the
company. Often some people return, so I do not delete them altogether for a
while.

I thought that I had this down - make them inactive and change workgroup to
None, which should sort out any error messages. However, I have recently
noticed (it might have been happening for a while?) despite the changes I
made in the ERP, within projects the resources were working on, their
workgroup does not change and so the error messages persist.

When I try to change the workgroup within a project, of course it tells me
that the changes will not be affected, and if I want to change it completely
then I should open the ERP!!!

Has anyone seen this before? Or even better have a solution, with an
explanation?

Thanks in advance,

John

There is a bug in 2003 that once a resource is inactivated, the resource
data no longer synchronizes with the resource sheet when the project is
opened.

What this means is that you must first change all the data you want to
change on the resource you intend to deactivate but do not inactivate the
resource.

Then all projects that reference that resource must be opened, saved and
published so the resource data changes. Once all projects are updated, then
you can inactivate the resource.
