Inactive Work resource shows as Material when opened in client

I have several resources that show as Work in Project Server 2007, but when
opened through the Resource Center in Project Pro 2007 they show as Material
without the option of changing Type.

Whenever I try to save these resources, I receive error code 2072: Cannot
change resource type (MSDN). All of the resources are inactive. I would
rather not be forced to delete these resources, as they have historical
actual hours applied to projects. I would also like to know if any of you
know why these resources are being corrupted. Does anyone have any insight
on this? Thanks.

You will not believe this, but I just spoke with a gentleman here at the
Chicago Project Conference who had the EXACT SAME PROBLEM as you. This
situation appears to be an intermittent but with Project Server 2007. I
don't believe this is currently documented as a bug, but I could be wrong.

The gentleman was able to resolve the problem by doing the following:

1. From the Resource Center page, re-activate the enterprise resource and
save the changes.
2. From the Resource Center, set the resource to inactive again and save
the changes.

He was able to identify the problem originally by studying the Resource
Usage view in a Microsoft Project plan. In this View, the resource's Work
hours did not show the "h" formatting, which indicated the resource was now
a Material resource instead of a human Work resource. Hope this helps.
