inappropriate formatting

I'm using Word 2004 on a MAC (OSX). I have a couple of problems. First,
when I activate "track changes" if I opt to see or print the changes in
the document, Word inserts really frequent and inappropriate page
breaks. They aren't there is I opt out of seeing them (but then what
good is tracking the changes?).

The 2nd problem only occurs occasionally. I have some documents that
when I try to format the font on one section by highlighting it (bold
or italicize), the changes affect the entire document.

Any ideas?

Format -> style and uncheck "automatically update" (or similar).
