Include text formatting in a mail merge

M

Michele

Hi

When I using a mail merge with "includetext" that has
mergefield I can not seem to remove the /** MERGEFORMAT**/
option from the includetext. I have to remove it because
when I merge the old text formatting "times new roman"
seems to pop back into the document. Everytime I modify
the document this /**MERGEFORMAT**/ appears!

Is there a Word setting that I need to turn off? Or
something else I am missing??

I am running WordXP. Any help would be appreciated.

Michele.

Open the document - press ALT+F9 to display the field contents delete the
\*Mergeformat from the field. Press F9 to update - and if necessary ALT+F9
to toggle the display back again. Save the document. Merge away.

Hi Michele,

Are you sure you're seeing MergeFormat? Or is it perhaps
MergeFormatINET? (or INET anywhere at all in there)

I cannot see any mechanism whereby it could return - unless the document is
corrupt.

There is no INET anywhere in the document.Mmmm. Because the thing that occurs to me is the setting

Tools/Options/General/Web options/Files, the checkbox about
updating fields when saving.

That will do weird things to IncludeText and IncludePictures
fields, including adding a mergeformatinet switch. You might
want to see if that's activated, and if it is, turn it off
and test again.
