includetext

I want to use a variable as the path for a file with a
bookmark I want to use in a merge document.

The following works ok
{includetext "c:\\foldername\\file" bookmark }
but I want it to get the path name from my data source so
I think it should look like this
{ includetext "VARIABLE containing path" bookmark }but I
keep getting a "cannot find file" error.

Any help would be appreciated.

Does the content of your field contain the path in the same format?

I assume so.
The data entered in the field is "c:\\aaa
merge\\pensions.doc" (including the "").This is exactly
the same as was entered before as
{includetext "c:\\aaa merge\\pensions.doc" government}

In that case {Includetext {Mergefield Fieldname} bookmark}
should work. You will almost certainly have to merge to a new document and
update it after the merge (CTRL+A then F9).
If it doesn't, merge the fieldname field on its own without the Includetext
and see exactly what it enters.
