including a Google search box

I wanted to create my own home page including a Google search box (and
Amazon search box) but it doesn't work - Is it something I can easily fix?

I'm sure I've used google search box on 3rd party sites before e.g. 'Driven
by Google' but I've even checked the whole of google looking for an official
method - i don't really want another toolbar because it defeats my object of
a home page
