including higher-level hierarchy headings in table of content and footnotes

hello,

my current table of contents looks like this:

1. House
1.1. Wall
1.1.1. Opening

I would like to change this automatically into:

1. House
1.1. House > Wall
1.1.1. House > Wall > Opening

in the table of contents and in the footnotes of every page.

could somebody please give me some ideas how I can accomplish this? I
have some programming experience if needed.
