incoming email is showing an incorrect receipt date

Today, 15th December 2008, all incoming email is being recorded as being
received on 6th March 2008. System date clock is set to 15th Dec., etc.

What has happened?

I would check the internet header to see what date the mail server is
stamping for a date.
