Incompatibility between the PSCleaner utility and OLAP Build?

M

MartinG

On 2 separate occasions I had my OLAP build fail with the error #2147221411.
The only common feature was my use of the PSCleaner utility - that this might
have been the cause was the fact that in the event log associated with the
failure was a reference to one of the deleted files. The problem also
"unticked" the MSP_Portfolio_Analyser and MSP_Res_Avail_Fact cubes in the SQL
Analysis Services Analysis Manager. Has anyone else had a similar experience
and does anyone know what might be happening?

See any 0x5 errors? My best guess is that you've got orphaned assignment
records in the database from one or more of the deleted projects.

Thanks Gary - Yes I have got an 0x5 error in one of the messages - I had
suspected that there was something hanging around "uncleaned" in the server.
I seem to be able to fix the problem by doing a 1 day cube then building the
main cube again followed by resetting the permissions in the SQL server. I
am getting the problem now even when deleting a single project using the PWA
utility - any idea how to stop it happening?

Martin:

For the pseudo-deleted projects referenced in the error messages, try
deleting all records in MSP_WEB_ASSIGNMENTS for starters. After that, see
what you get.

Hi Gary - As you suggest I can find these "orphan" assignments in
MSP_WEB_ASSIGNMENTS but I am not sure how to delete them safely and would be
grateful for your advice.

Hi Gary - While searching through the database to ensure that I had all
orphan assignments to delete I discovered that what I had actually got was an
"orphan Project"! I could see all of its tasks in MSP_WEB_ASSIGNMENTS and
its title in MSP_WEB_Projects but there was no sign of it in Project 2003 or
PWA. Also although I could not see it in the PWA cleaner utility it still
appeared in the PSCleaner utility listing - I used that to "delete" the
project again and all of the junk entries seem to have gone from the database
so we will see what happens on my next scheduled OLAP build.
