Incomplete font list in Publisher Pro 2003

Hello and thanks in advance for your help.
I've recently started using Publisher Pro 2003 with SP1 installed.
When I place a textbox on a form, be it a Printed Publication or a Web
Page, the dropdown list of fonts includes ONLY three (3) "Device Font"
entries; 10 cpi, 12 cpi and 17 cpi. The default font for the textbox (in my
case, "Times New Roman") is listed in the combo box's text area, but does not
appear in the drowdown list. The textbox is indeed in "Times New Roman",
though. Any font name I manually type into the combo box results in "The
font <fontname> is not available on your system. Do you want to use it
anyway?" This occurs even after typing the default fontname; i.e., manually
entering "Times New Roman" immediately over "Times New Roman" gives the error
even though ITS THE FONT TO WHICH PUBLISHER SET THE TEXTBOX IN THE FIRST
PLACE!!! Opening the font dialog is no help, either, as it lists only the
above mentioned fonts as well.
WordArt fully recognizes and properly utilizes all installed fonts.
Indeed, it seems that only textboxes are affected by this problem. Choosing
a Font Scheme does correctly change the textbox's font and the combo box's
text area, but the fontname still will not appear the combo box's dropdown
list and manually entering the chosen fontname results, again, in the "not
available" message.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. This doesn't seem to be a
common problem, as I can't find anything about it on the web. Or maybe it's
so bleeding obvious that I'm just not seeing it.

Thanks a ton. That was it. I never print on this machine, and somehow
the default printer got set to a generic text printer. I wonder, why did
this occur also for a Web Page? I would think that I should have access to
all screen fonts in this case, regardless of what printer is selected.

Nothing whatsoever to do with Publisher. You haven't set up a
printer, or if you have, it's set to "generic, text only". Install a
printer capable of handling TrueType fonts.

I would class this as a Publisher bug (or at least a quirk), as Publisher is
supposed to have removed printer dependence.

That was a bonehead answer. If you know anything about Publisher you know
that the default font cannot be changed from Times Roman no matter what kind
of printer you've got. "Generic printer" indeed. I've got an HP 1500l Laser.

If you knew as much about Publisher as you seem to like to think you do, you
would know that you CAN change the default font in Publisher. There is a
tutorial on it here:

Anyone with any sense could see that the OP's problem was not that the
default font could not be changed, but that the font list did not display
all the installed fonts.

Hi all

I've been experiencing this same problem with some newly installed TT fonts
("not in your system" despite installing them in the control panel). I
assumed it was to do with having a printer that was incapable of handling
TrueType, but I realised that other existing TT fonts DO appear on the list.
Just none of the ones I installed. (These fonts were given to me as part of a
corporate fonts package. No one else uses Publisher though, and the fonts
seem to work for Word)

Anyone have any clue how to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

When you are creating a web page you will only have a limited choice of fonts on
the drop down. To change this option;
Format, Font, uncheck "Show only Web fonts."

....and if you are creating a web page and select non-web fonts, then they
they are converted to images which are not searchable by search engines.
