"Incomplete Project Check-in" Message

Hi -

I am using Project Professional with Project Server 2007 in a test
environment. Periodically, when i go to open an enterprise project I get a
message that says it can only be opened "read only" because a previous check
in is "incomplete". When I go to the server settings to Force check in,
nothing appears on the list of items that are checked out. This is the 3rd
time this has happened and the first two times I opened the files "read only"
and saved and published them back to the server under new names. What is
causing this and how can I fix it without having to continue to re-name the
projects? I am always careful to save, then publish, then check the projects
back in before closing them. Is there something else I can check to find out
what the problem is? There is nothing showing up in the queue either.

Hi Gary,

That would make sense except for the fact that my attempts to re-open the
files are not happening on the same day as the last closure. For instance,
the last time I was in the project file in this lastest instance was Friday.
I saved it, published it, and when I went to close it I answered "yes" when
it asked me if i wanted to check it back in. The first time I went to open it
again was today, and I got the message that the last check in was not
complete. Same situation in previous instances. That is why it is so
puzzling.

Are you seeing check-in pending in the queue? Have you tried clearing the
local cache after cancelling all pending queue jobs?

Hello JMW & Gary,

This issue is a known issue on 2007. You may not find the check in
job pending in the queue. What happens is within your cache.
When you say that you are closing the project schedule and opting to
checkin, its fine. But you did not given time for your Project Pro
cache to update the status of the project being checked in and you
shutdown your Project Pro. No mater when you close a project file, but
ensure the checkin jobs on PWA before you shutdown Project Pro. This
has been resolving the issue. If you don't want this way, you can
clear this particular file from the Project Pro cache (it will show
under projects checked out to you). Both these workarounds are
applicable only you do not have a pending checkin job in the queue.

Hope this help!

Thanks,
Ravi.
