Inconsistent formula or MS trying to be too clever?

I have a cell with a little triangle in the top left corner. When
selected an ! warning appears saying..

"The formulae in this cell differs from the formulas in this area of the
spreadsheet"

Which is correct, they are.

However clicking on the ! produces some options the first of which is
highlighted and says "Inconsistent formula"

The formulae in that cell is...

=IF(D31+G32-B42<0,0,D31+G32-B42)

I can't see anything inconsistent with it.

Is there?

No way to tell, since you show us only one formula.

But the real point is: ignore those warnings. It just Excel being
over-helpful. Excel is saying: "I notice that this formula is different
from some of its neighbors in form. Are you sure that's what you want you
to do?".

In your case, the answer is: "Hell yes. Now please stop bothering me. I'm
the human here. I usually know what I'm doing".

In fact, I always disable such useless error checking. In XL2003, click on
Tools, Options, Error Checking, and deselect "Enable background error
checking". You might also want to click on Reset Ignored Errors to remove
any pre-existing warnings.

:)

Thanks, I suspected that might be the case as the spreadsheet works fine.
