Incorporation of actuals to the project schedule

Haris

Hi,

I've this scenario in my organization:

A task was scheduled to finish on 15th of April. 2 Resources were assigned
on it. on 15th the task wasn't finished till 5pm, the off time. So resources
worked overtime and finished up the task at 11pm the same day. So the filled
in their time sheet with 14 Hours for 15th of April.
Now for the PM's purpose, he should be able to tell the client that the task
completed as per schedule, i.e. on 15th , even though with an extra effort
expanded.

Now what would PWA be doing when the PM accepts the time sheet of these two
resources and Project schedule gets updated?

Would it be extending the Actual finish date to 16th of april ? or would be
increasing the percent allocation of each of the two resources for that task?
Looking forward.

Regards,
Haris

What happens in Project depends heavily on what the task parameters are, and
how your tracking settings are configured. There's no simple or correct
answer for this question with the information you provided.

Gary:

Thanks for your response. We are using managed time periods. With these
tracking settings:
Hours of work done per day or per week: Resources report the hours worked on
each task during each time period.
Resources should report their hours worked every day.

Do i need to provide any other info ?

Haris

This has absolutely nothing to do with your original question, unless I'm
completely misunderstanding you. These settings determine what happens in
Project Web Access. Are you aware that you can collect over-time work in
Project Web Access? Are you collecting the additional work as Overtime work?
What do you want to happen?

Tell us the task type you're using
Are you setting tasks as effort-driven?
What are your tracking settings in the Project Client? IE: What have you
selected on the Tools > Options > Calculation Tab? These determine how
Project handles the actual work when it's passed from Project Web Access.
