Incorrect assignment of remaining work?

I am seeing what appears to be an incorrect assignment of remaining work.
I have a single resource assigned to a particular task that is currently 99%
complete. There is .32 days remaining work to complete. The resource is not
allocated to any other tasks. At this point, I would expect the task to be
done in 1 day (.32 day).
However, after leveling, the resouce usage view reports 4 days @ 1.14 days
(overallocating by .14 per day), and .86 days work required to complete the
task.
Why isn't this task permitted to complete in 1 (or .32) days? Why does
project overallocate the resource for the 4 days and apparently needlessly
stretch the duration an extra 5 days? Please help.

Leveling consists of delaying and/or splitting tasks. What happens when you
level is largely dependent on your leveling settings. You can apply the
resource usage view in Project and zoom into days over hours to see what's
going on. You probably want to set your leveling selection to hour-by-hour
rather than day by day.
