Incorrect Australian Daylight Saving Time 2006 end date

I am using Version 11.2.3 (updated yesterday). I notice that when
someone sends me an invitation for a meeting at, say 9.00 am next
Wednesday (29 March) - Entourage is showing the time as 10.00am.

I know that I recently downloaded an update for my Windows machine
which addressed the change of Daylight Saving Time in Australia - See
Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 912475 'Australian daylight saving
time 2006 update for environments that do not use Exchange Server'

Has Microsoft decided that it's too much trouble to do the same for
those of its customers who use Entourage 2004? Is anyone else using
Entourage 2004 in Australia experiencing the same problem?

Tricia,

I'm having exactly the same problem. Immensely frustrating, too, as I
absolutely rely on my diary. Curiously enough, when I open a specific
event the scheduled time displays correctly. I notice that the effect
only kicks in as of Sunday, 26 March. Which is kind of odd as (and I
may be wrong here) I was under the impression that DST finished in
Melbourne & Sydney on April 2.

Okay, Microsoft, what's going on?

Part 2: One other thing about this odd business - Syncing to my phone
carries over the correct times. Something definitely not right within
Entourage.

Julian,

The problem arises, I believe, because DST was meant to change back at
3.00 am on the last Sunday of March (as happens every year). However,
because of the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne this year the 'Powers
That Be' decided to delay the changeover by one week so that we now
change back at 3.00 am on the first Sunday in April.

I downloaded a patch from Microsoft on my Windows machine (see KB
Article referred to above) about a month ago and this fixes the problem
for machines with the Windows OS, however, there has been no such
adjustment for those of us who also use Macs.

BTW my operating system is OS X 10.4.5 - but I don't think it matters
what version of the Mac OS one is using.

I don't sync with my phone so I cannot comment on that aspect but I
assume that the phone's system must know when DST changeover occurs.
Is it simply a 'phone' or is it a device with a Windows Mobile OS?

Cheers
Tricia

Apple released a patch for OSX which corrects this change in DST. I
assume that Entourage would rely on time zone support in OSX rather
than have it's own? But, I'm having exactly the same problem so
something in Entourgae is srewed.

So I guess we just have to wear this for the next week - at least it's
only ONE WEEK!!

Tricia,

That "last Sunday in March" would seem to bear out my experience with
anything after the 26th. Another CG knock-on. Wonderful.

I agree that the problem would seem to be OS version-independent - I'm
on the same version, but have been well before I installed this latest
update from Microsoft, and haven't had any problems until now. I'm
pleased that there's a patch for the Windows version, but I'm beginning
to think its time for the old leper's bell again as far as the Mac OS
is concerned.

The phone is "just" a phone - Nokia N70 (nice, very shiny, lots of
toys, excellent 2 megapixel camera) that syncs via iSync and e2Sync's
eponymous software (www.e2sync.com, if you're interested). It happily
syncs Mac Entourage with anything that iSync supports (and a few it
doesn't).

With a little luck Microsoft will respond to this problem sometime
soon... I also believe in Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, and that
politicians are honest people...

Regards

LOL and all those WMD :))

I've been holding off updating my phone until The Missing Sync
(www.markspace.com) can release a version that's compatible with WM 5
and then I wanted to get an Xda Atom. However, they've been 'hoping'
that that will be 'soon' since before Christmas now and I'm starting to
become impatient.

Again, it's Entourage that's really the problem because I need to be
able to sync Entourage appointments with a hand held device - whether
it's a smart phone or another mobile device doesn't really matter that
much - I just liked the look of the Atom. However, until it's Mac
compatible I can't go there.

Let's hope we get through next week without too many appointment
glitches ;-)

Cheers

I am already running 10.4.5. Today all my appointments for next week
display an hour later on the WEEK view than they actually are. An
appointment set to 8:30am in the actual appointment shows in the 9:30am
slot in the week view. For the last few months I have had an error
displayesd in Entourage saying the Event and Computer time zones do not
match and calendar views are adjusted accordingly.

It would seem that Entourage uses its own time zone information, not
OS/X's time zones. And it would seem these have not been updated for
the revised end of daylight saving in 2006. Once the 10.4.5 update was
downloaded, Entourage and OS/X were running different time zones for
the eastern australian states.

Thats my best guess anyway. So for one week i have to remember that my
appointments are all an hour earlier than they appear to be!!

Hi Stephen,

I found this forum, whilst trying to resolve the same problem. What I
have noticed is that the time zone set on my Mac is GMT +11, wheras I
believe it should be GMT +10. This is despite my setting the zone to
Sydney, where I am based. I cannot seem to manually change the GMT
setting.

I have been experiencing this problem for some months and have since
updated with several Mac auto updates. I am now operating Tiger 10.4.6.
I use Entourage 2004 Version 11.2.3. This is on a new drive after a
recent crash (make sure you backup!!).
From what I can see, there is no fix. I travel extensively throughout
Asia and interstingly, when I make an appointment in Singapore for
example, it is sometimes displayed an hour ahead. The strange thing is
though, that I leave it in Sydney's time zone, yet my Sydney
appointments are displayed correctly. Go figure.

I'd be interested in any certain fixes to this, as MS do not seem to be
responding to numerous requests by others. I am inclined to think the
problem may be something to do with the GMT zone on your Mac. Please
let me know whether your GMT is correctly displayed... I'd also be
curious to know what others are displayed as.

Cheers,

Julian C.
