incorrect dates in MS Word data fields

J

John B.

In a Word-based form set to accept dates using the MM/YYYY format, incorrect
dates are returned when entering dates in the 20xx year series by using only
two characters. I.e., entering 01, 02, 03, etc, will always return "2008".
The problem does not occur when entering earlier dates. I.e. 77, 84, 99;
which will consistently add the "19" prefix to make 1977, 1984, 1999.

Is there a fix that will correct the 20xx dates?

Which Word version is this?
In Word 2003 a date form field with a format of MM/YYYY requires a full
legitimate date to be entered in order for it to be formatted in that
manner. Part dates entered in the field eg 01/08 do not provide sufficient
information for the field to resolve the date correctly. You would have to
enter (say) 02/02/01 for it to work. Personally I would use a popup calendar
for restricted date formats for the user to select the date and thus avoid
entry error - see http://www.gmayor.com/popup_calendar.htm or the
alternative proposed by fellow MVP Greg Maxey in his userform at
http://gregmaxey.mvps.org/Create_and_employ_a_UserForm.htm (a simple user
form with the merely date control will do the job)
