Incorrect umbered lists in Mail Merge

G

Gerene Daugherty

I have a 13 page document set up as the Main Document -
Letter. The numbering on the main document is set up just
the way we want it. With each section "restarting" the
number sequence.

Once I merge to a new document the first two levels of
numbered lists work properly for the first data record
(i.e. they restart the numbering sequence). But, the
third level is sporatic. Sometimes the numbered
lists "continue" numbering and others it "restarts".

All numbered lists, level two and higer, are screwed up on
the subsequent data records.

I'm using styles, and don't see any difference when using
Outlined Numbered vs. Numbered lists.

I. Level One
A. Level Two
1. Level Three
(a) Level Four
(i) Level Five

Please help!

G'day "Gerene Daugherty" <[email protected]>,

send me a post-merge document offlist as your provided info does not
yield any clues other than possibly bad styling associations.

Hi Gerene,

Autonumbering is "iffy", at best, when it comes to stringing
documents together. One sees the problem when inserting files
into other files, using Master Docs, and during MailMerge.

Most certain is to use fields (such as SEQ) rather than
Autonumbering, since with them you can explicitly set a
restart.

If you want to stick with autonumbering, then look for the
article on the mvps.org/word site where the workaround of a
"hidden" level one is suggested to force a restart.
