Incorrect Username/password on accessing Project Web Access for first time

Scenario:

Single machine install following the single machine installation guide but
with no Analysis Services.

This is in Virtual PC with no AD available so the names used are local
server users and sa for the parts where access to the database is needed.

I can from a client access the WSS site OK and create users there (from
existing local users).

In the Server I have a link to the Project Web Access name / password entry
page but it accepts no valid users names / password combinations. This
non-acceptance includes the Server Administrator and also a couple of normal
(local) users including a new one with a known password - both these local
users are included in the local Administrators group.

Any ideas however wild are welcome.

After several hours of reading and re-reading both the installation guide
and looking many times at the admin guide to check if this really wasn't
anywhere, and of course after trying every user name I could think of /
ditto passwords, I finally gave up and went to google where I found a Tech
republic article that said use "administrator" so that plus the 8 char
alternative password (to my usual 6 char password which I *usually* tried
and presumably was the only one I tried with Administrator **because I knew
I always use that one with Administrator** ..) worked.
