Incorrect working hour in new projects

Hi everyone,

My company is using Project Professional 2003 with Project Server and
Project Web Access. I am having a problem like this:
- There were old administrative projects storing working hours of employees
in 2005 until March 2006.
- New administrative projects were created based on those old project files,
with the aim of storing only working hours of 2006.
- The old admin. projects were put in archive after that, now only admin
(like me) can see the old projects.

The problem is:
- In the new admin projects, there are some strange hours. Some employees
say they did not enter it, but it shows they have. In some case, even 200,
300hours extra. In some cases, I see a task with 8h/a day for a long period
of time.
- And I check with Adjust actuals in Resources menu of PWA, I saw the old
admin projects were still showed (and probably the hours of those projects
are still counted). I set the Booking type of all people in old admin
projects to Proposed and put the projects in archive, how come it still show
these projects in the list of Adjust actuals ? (It does not show in Tasks
menu though)

How could I check and put the new admin. projects in correct hours ? If it
is going like this, it will be a big problem because in my company, there is
a lot of subsidised projects which really needs the correct hours.

Thank so much in advance

In your query you state "New administrative projects were created based on
those old project files." Did you by chance clone these using a "Save As"
operation. If so, this is the root of your problem. New projects of all
types should be created from fresh templates or blank project, never from
cloning projects that were previously published in the enterprise
environment. Does this help?

Thanks for your reply Gary,

That was exactly when the problem started. I only knew about it (from other
post in here) after I have done it. And the old files have been put in
archive and nobody entered anything in it for couple of months, they started
using the new admin. projects. Now I cant ask them to re-enter to the old
projects.
Is there a way to keep the new project files, and correct the working hours?
I have checked manually one by one :( (I dont know other way to do it), and
I have managed to change some, but still, I think there might be incorrect
hours somewhere ?

Can anybody tell me is there an escape for me :(

Thanks in advance

How about creating new projects using the best practice I note in the
previous post and then harvesting the actual work for the last two months
from the evil clones and port it to the fresh replacements? IMO this is the
safest approach. The problem with the clones is not only what you see, but
the fact that you can't see what clutter might still remain in the project's
binary record. Do you want to risk future surprises?
