Increase Density of Background Printing

I want to print a "background" image at its full color density. Even when
I uncheck the "Washout" box, the backgound image is noticeably, but not
severely, washed out. Is there a way to have the background image print at
its full density/intensity? I want to do this by the background feature
instead of a simple picture behind the text because the picture can be too
easily moved by the user either intentionally or by accident when editing
text in front of the picture. The background image is locked in place and
wouldn't have this problem.

I wrote about this problem a week ago, but got no response. I am surprised
that no one was able to comment. I would really appreciate knowing if I am
asking for something that is not possible with Word.

IIRC, you did get a response when you posted previously, and that response
was that the background image *will* print at full intensity even though it
doesn't display that way in Print Layout view (in which headers and footers
are always dimmed except when active). You should look at Print Preview to
get a better idea of what will print. If you are using Word 2003, however
(and possibly even earlier versions), don't trust that entirely, as I have
seen some anomalous results with background images in this view.

Hi Traderv,

Did you try actually printing with the background image? I think you're
being misinformed by what you see on the screen. I printed the same image
three ways and got exactly the same density results on paper, although they
looked different on screen:

- Insert the picture in the body text and send it behind the text.
- Insert the picture in the header, send it behind the text, and drag it to
the desired location.
- Insert the picture as a printed watermark and uncheck the washout box.

There are differences in the positioning behavior, but none at all in the
printed density.

Unless the picture covers the whole page, I think the second method is best.
It prevents accidental movement (you have to open the header pane before you
can select the picture to move it), but it doesn't force the picture to be
centered on the page the way the watermark does.
