Increasing column width on Excel chart

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

Hello,
I made a column chart of concentrations at different sites by date. The columns are tiny, how do I increase the width? I already reduced the gap distance to zero but that hardly helped at all. Any ideas? I would also like to change the scale to "category" rather than time. Is that possible?
