Incredible slow downloading of mail

Every morning hwen I first open outlook and try to download my mail it takes
outlook a good 15-30 minutes to complete the task. Once outlook loads, it
then tries to download mail, often taking 20 minutes just to get off 0%, and
another 10-15 minutes to download my mail. this is extremely slow and
happens every morning.

Outlook 2002
XP Professional
512m DDR 400
