Indefiniate loop eating up memory

One of our computers has a problem in word 2007.

With nothing else open, we open Word (to a blank document). The mouse
starts flickering between hourglass (blue circle) and the normal cursor.
Checking task manager shows that Word is steadily increasing the memory being
used. By about 500MB per 10 minutes.

All macros are disabled.

What could be causing this?
