Independent columns - HOW???

Word 97

I'm presently gathering materials for a biblical commentary to be
written in Word 97 with two columns per page. The biblical text will
be pasted in the left-hand column, while the commentary text will be
written next to it in the right hand column. The biblical text needs
to be able to extend indefinitely down the left column without
wrapping over onto the right hand column--for as many pages as is
necessary. How can I do this in Word 97 without incurring a
formatting nightmare?

Any help or suggestions would be sincerely appreciated.

.. . .
The biblical text will be pasted in the left-hand column, while the
commentary text will be written next to it in the right hand column.

If the commentary is going to be [hand-]written, simply bring the
right margin in to the middle of the page. The printed words will be
contained on the left half of the page, leaving the right half free for
annotation.

If you want to have document text in /both/ columns, you may have
to resort to a two-column table - text in column 1, annotation in
column 2 - or worse still, textboxes (wouldn't recommend that one,
personally, but it's /still/ an option).

An easy workaround is to use a table. Create a 2 cell table and simply
enter all of the text into either the left or the right hand side. As
the table grows in size, the text will simply continue downward on the
page (and into the next page).

You can use the insert table button on the tool bar.

Go to Table-Insert-Table on the menu bar
