Independent Forms

Is it possible to "externalize" forms form Access, so they can be used to
edit tables without launching MSAccess itself? Maybe give them a shortcut to
be placed on the desktop, so they would launch as an independent program?

Thanks for your answer in advance-

Hi
I was about to ask exactly the same question.

The last time I used Access was in 98 with Windows NT. I ran an Online
Access (no relationship) in Tasmania. When we had new members in we clicked
on an icon on the desktop, which opened up a form where we put in their
details.
This form was completely independent to the database window, because why
would you need the database window? We also had a Query form that was also
independent to the database.
This seemed very sensible and was designed to help volunteers who were not
database savvy.
Why has this option gone?
I clicked on the link Danny provided and to tell you the truth it was
complete gooble-de-gook. I would have no idea what to do with that
information.
There must be a simpler way to resolve such an obvious shortfall.

Regards and keep the great work coming

Well, this wasn't done in Microsoft Access if you mean that literally.

An Access Form has no independent existance outside of a database. A Query has
no independent existance apart from the table which contains its data.

It's quite likely that this was an Access application; the database, the
tables, etc. all were still there, but just concealed from view. It's pretty
easy to set up a database so a chosen form opens automatically, and the
database window is concealed; all you see is the form, and it *looks* like it
has no independent means of support - but it does.

No problem... threads drift, and this one is drifting on topic! <g>

Check out Tony Toews' tips at http://www.granite.ab.ca/access - he has a
pretty detailed checklist of how to prepare a database for distribution,
including turning off the database screen and (importantly!) splitting the app
into a frontend and backend.
