Word 2000 decided that my 13 page form would look better with a black line
stretching across the bottom of each page below the footer. My "form" has no
actual form fields in it. It is just a very long set of tables. When it first
appeared, the line was greyed out and I could not select it, so I deduced
that it was part of the footer itself. When I opened the footer the line
turned black (as expected) but I still could not select it. When I closed the
footer, the line stayed black (not as expected). I tried adjusting the
margins, inserting pages, adding and deleting rows to the tables, deleting
the footer entirely... nothing worked. I finally had to copy each page out of
the document and paste them one at a time into a new one. That does not seem
like a very elegant solution and it won't help me the next time Word
(inevitably) decides to change my document like this. It has also happened to
a coworker, so I have reason to believe it will happen again.
Did I do this to myself by unintentionally pressing some weird set of keys?
Is this just a bug in the program - every 1,000 documents it adds a line to
the bottom? Should I be looking for conflicts with other programs? I would
greatly appreciate any help understanding both what happened and what to do
about it! Thank you!!
