Once I wanted to use the table of contents for one of my
projects but I couldn't; in the meantime, some other
problems emerged like there are some symbols resembling a
hammer head by the name of TOC 1, 2, 3..... and also
every time I want to give space there appears a dot
instead of space, would you please tell me how to get rid
of them.

If the ¶ button is highlighted on the Standard toolbar near the top of
your screen, click the button to unhighlight it. If you don't see a ¶
button, click on Tools | Options | View, and in the Formatting Marks
section, uncheck the box for All. If that still doesn't fix it, go back
into Tools | Options | View, and in the Formatting Marks section,
uncheck the boxes for Paragraph Marks and Spaces.
