Index/Concordance problem

Kren

I'm creating an index using a concordance file. The index creates fine, but it seems to randomly miss entries and sub-entries. Any suggestions on what could be occuring? Also, in a 2 column format, is there a way to get the second index page to use only the first column on the second page?? Word splits what's left over into 2 columns and I'd like to get it to just put the entries in the first column

Hi Kren,

This will not solve your problem, but may be of interest.

See the article "How can I automatically generate an index in Word?" at:

Please post any further questions or followup to the newsgroups for the
benefit of others who may be interested. Unsolicited questions forwarded

Hope this helps

I've done some very large indices, and never seen this problem. Are
you "sure" that there isn't some difference between the "skipped"
entries and the words in the concordance?

I haven't been able to do that either.

You can do that. Go to Tools, Options, and click on the Compatibility tab.
Scroll down until you come to "Don't balance columns for Continuous Section
Starts", and check that item.

It is a document-specific setting, so you save it just for an individual
document, or for a template, in which case it applies to all the documents
based on the template.

paragraph.
