Index copy in Word

How can I copy only the index I created for a document and paste it into a
new document?

If I highlight the index and copy it, when I paste it to a new document, I
get a message that says the index couldn't be created.

Use Paste Special to paste as unformatted text. m.

First, select the Index and use Command + Shift + F9 to convert it to
ordinary text.

Then copy and paste as usual.

Undo the change or don't save the source document. Otherwise the index will
never regenerate again!

Cheers
