Index entry issues in msword 2007

Hello friends,

I am using office 2007. I created index for my document by the following
steps.

References - > Insert Index

I have chosen formats as "From template" , Tableader as "dots" and columns
as "3" indented. I modified inbuilt style of word "Index1" to have my desired
options. I have couple of questions here.

Will i be able to set the column width (as i chosen earlier, its of 3
columns) for the index?

The second question is that, even though when i set the tab leader position
to a different value in the "Index1" style, while generating it sets to some
value of "1.91" which takes priority over my value. Why is that?

Display field codes, for example by pressing Alt+F9. Delete the \c "3" part
of the field code. Update the index field. You will now get a single column
index. Press Alt+F9 again to hide field codes. Insert a continuous section
break before and after the field, and then format the section where your
index resides as three column, via Page Layout tab | Columns. You could then
change the widths of individual columns.

Try deleting the tab stop completely (via the Modify Style dialog box), and
then recreate it. Does that fix the issue?

Also, for a multi-column index, note that you will have to adjust the tab
stop position for the Index 1 style so that it fits appropriately within the
margins of each column.

Thanks for quick response.

I even tried deleting the tab leader completely and i have modified Index 1
style already to have a different tab leader stop value , but once generated
i tried to edit the index field. I shows a default value or something else on
top of my tab leader value. My tab leader value is displaying below that
value.

Sorry, I can't reproduce this behavior. If you want to, I can take a look at
the file. You can send it to (e-mail address removed). Note, however, that I may
not have time to deal with this until after the weekend.

Follow-up: I received an example file, and I noticed that the document
contained two different indexes, one two-column and one three-column. Since
the same paragraph style (Index 1) is being used for all indexes in a Word
document, this explains why it would be difficult or impossible to find a tab
stop position that matches both indexes at the same time.
